SPOR AV Site Surveys - What they are and why we do them

Updated: Jun 5

A SPOR AV (Audio Visual) site survey is a thorough assessment of a space or building where AV equipment is planned to be installed, upgraded, or decommissioned.

Before we start a project, we send one of our experts to do a physical inspection of the location to gather information about the existing infrastructure, layout, and identify any potential challenges.

The goal is to get enough information for the optimal placement of audio and visual equipment, to ensure a smooth and successful installation

What is included in a SPOR AV Site Survey?

  • Face to Face meeting:

The site survey is a great opportunity for our team to meet the client face to face, and for them to meet us. This meeting helps both clarify what is required and build the relationship. Communication and collaboration are key elements in any project and we take care to nurture this aspect.

  • Physical Examination and Documentation:

Our expert will physically visit the site to assess things like the layout, ceiling heights, interstitial spaces, access points, and overall environment. They will also take measurements, diagrams, photos and notes during the survey to document the findings and create a detailed plan for the AV system integration.

  • Infrastructure Assessment:

They will examine existing electrical systems, cabling, lighting, and other relevant infrastructure points.

  • Equipment Placement:

They will determine the best locations for equipment based on functionality, accessibility, aesthetics and location of services like the HVAC, security and fire alarms.

  • Potential Challenges:

They will identify any obstacles or issues that could impact the installation process, such as limited access, structural limitations, or interference from other systems such as air conditioning vents too close to microphones.

Why do we do this?

Ultimately to make sure our clients have the best experience possible. Doing a physical site survey helps because they:

  • Ensure Proper Equipment Selection:

A survey helps ensure that the correct equipment is chosen and placed in the optimal way to fully meet the specific requirements of the client.

  • Reduce Rework and Scope Creep:

A thorough site survey helps to isolate any changes and minimize the risk of errors, rework and costly scope creep during the installation.

  • Optimizes System Performance:

By considering factors like acoustics, lighting, and connectivity, the survey helps to optimize the performance of the AV system.

  • Avoids Unforeseen Costs:

A site survey can help identify any potential problems before they become cost issues during the installation such as very narrow interstitial spaces .

  • Improves the Installation Process:

By having a clear understanding of the site, the installation process can be streamlined and completed more efficiently.
